The Old Schoolhouse® (established in 2001) and its online Bible-based curriculum platform, SchoolhouseTeachers.com, exist to serve homeschooling families worldwide. A Schoolhouse is a local homeschool co-op where like-minded parents gather in a safe, Christian environment—typically meeting inside an evangelical church—and teach ready-made courses to homeschooled students PK–12th grade. During weekly or twice-weekly meeting days, a Schoolhouse becomes an engaged community: families learning and teaching together, Directors providing leadership, and the church leadership supporting the ministry. A Schoolhouse is a ministry of the local church.
If you’re here, you’re probably in one of these positions: You want to start a new homeschool co-op and ground it in something solid from day one. Or you’ve got an existing co-op that’s good, but you want it to be more—connected to other regional Schoolhouses, aligned with a curriculum platform that does the heavy lifting, and built on a Biblical foundation. Or maybe your husband pastors a church, and you both see a real need: families are leaving public schools in droves and need a place to land. Your church can be that place for your congregation and the surrounding community alike—new homeschooling families who want a Christian education for their kids, whether they’re part of your fellowship or not, because the church is the answer to the public school problem.
Whatever brought you here, know this: A Schoolhouse isn’t just another co-op. It’s joining a network of like-minded communities in your region. Each is independent and run by its own Director, but you’re all connected. You get the SchoolhouseTeachers.com curriculum built in, the support and leadership of the church community, and the benefit of relationships with Directors at other Schoolhouses who understand precisely what you’re building. You’re not starting alone and hoping it works. You’re joining something that already exists and works.
Schoolhouse Director Melissa Castle, whose husband serves as a pastor and who together direct the Parker’s Chapel Schoolhouse in Kingsport, TN, adds: “My children have enjoyed the interaction with all the social and learning activities that have been provided through the experience of our Schoolhouse co-op…Come join a close-knit, Christian community that enjoys co-laboring with you in the homeschool experience.” Please note the FAQ.)
One of the most rewarding adventures in my homeschooling journey is becoming the Director of a Schoolhouse Co-op.

“I would definitely recommend it…Very affordable and easy to get connected. Plus, the field trips are a great bonus!” —Laura Kurtz
