Ages/Grade(s) Recommendation: High School with priority given to 11th and 12th grade students. Additional availability will be extended to 9th and 10th graders. Reason: to ensure 12th graders who need the course for graduation are given priority, and that the curriculum is fresh on their minds as they graduate. They are more likely, too, to have a first job at this point and will need the information as they begin to earn money.

High School Credit? YES (one-half credit for Personal Finance)

Class Summary: Students will learn personal financial principles and concepts from a Christian perspective. Upon completion, the student will have been introduced to budgets and financial documents, including preparing a personal budget and financial plan as well as analyzing a personal income statement and balance sheet. Debt prevention and elimination will be discussed in detail along with various loans including student loans (and alternative methods) as well as home and car loans along with a study of loan amortization. Strong emphasis will be given to investing and saving and time value of money. Types of investment securities will be introduced along with retirement planning and saving.

Orientation: A basic syllabus/outline will be given to parents outlining supplies and courses to download or access from SchoolhouseTeachers.com.

Length of Class: One semester (August 30-December 13)
